Bug mette a rischio gli hard disk dei portatili

E' stato segnalato un bug serissimo che comporta un eccessivo numero di cicli di load/unload del disco fisso di computer portatili quando questi sono alimentati a batteria.

Il problema riguarda Ubuntu, ma probabilmente anche altre distribuzioni, ed è quindi il caso di fare particolare attenzione e di verificare l'uso del proprio hard disk.

Controlla tu stesso:

smartctl -d ata -a /dev/sda

Sul mio portatile non succede nulla di strano e dopo tre anni non ho un numero esagerato di cicli.

Sul mio c'e` qualcosa che non mi convince: nel giro di un'ora il contatore e` cresciuto di quasi 100 unita`
Poi mi sono accorto che powersaved non era usato (rcpowersaved status restituiva unused).
Ora ho riavviato il sistema, powersaved funziona e ora controllo quanto cresce nella prossima ora.

edit: in 4 minuti e` cresciuto di 3 unita`.
ap, tu che impostazioni hai per il powersave? e per acpi?

riedit: riavviato il sistema dopo aver disabilitato powersave. Nessuna variazione significativa nel comportamento.

ririedit: ora ho provato a riattivare powersave e a disabilitare l'apm sul disco con il comando hdparm -B 255 /dev/sda. Ora vedo cosa succede...

ri^3edit: dopo 50 minuti Load_cycle_count non si e` mosso. Tra l'altro, anche la temperatura del disco e` normale (40 gradi).
Ora inserisco il comando in uno script di avvio, in modo che venga eseguito sempre (anche perche` ho la seguente situazione: orodruin:~ # smartctl -A /dev/sda|grep 193<br />193 Load_Cycle_Count        0x0032   043   043   000    Old_age   Always       -       115681
e non mi ispirano tanta fiducia quei due 043 presenti, considerando che ai primi di giugno la situazione era 193 Load_Cycle_Count        0x0032   064   064   000    Old_age   Always       -       73824 passando da 3250 a 4300 ore di funzionamento.

In teoria anch'io ho le impostazioni di default, dato che quando ho installato la 10.3 ho piallato la partizione di sistema (passando da ext3 a xfs). A meno che durante l'installazione non abbia recuperato qualcosa dal vecchio /etc (ho questo dubbio, dato che mi ero salvato /etc e /var nella mia home e, pur avendo piallato /, quando e` stata ora di aggiungere gli utenti, mi ha chiesto se volevo riusare quelli vecchi, con tutte le informazioni corrette, comprese le password. Considera anche che l'installazione l'ho fatta usando l'iso espansa su disco avviando il kernel di installazione da grub), dato che non penso influiscano le impostazioni di kpowersave.

Madcap, io non sono un esperto di queste cose, ma un valore di 2027 per Load_Cycle_Count (che conta quante volte la testina viene riportata nel punto di parcheggio usato a disco spento, se ho capito bene) in appena 43 minuti di funzionamento mi sembra decisamente troppo...

Come pure tutti quei short self-test. Mi domando perche` ci siano...

E poi c'e` qualcosa che non mi torna: come e` possibile che sia stato registrato un short self-test all'ora 24 mentre risulta che il disco ha funzionato per solo 43 minuti? Uno dei due valori e` sbagliato; secondo me non e` 0h+43m+24s ma mancano delle ore.
